Cristiano Ronaldo was left cursing the misfortune of Portugal after they were eliminated 4-2 on penalties by Spain in their Euro 2012 semi-final. Real Madrid CF forward was about to break the deadlock in normal time and should be the beneficiary of his team's fifth penalty in the shootout, but never had the opportunity and João Moutinho and Bruno Alves was unable to convert . Meanwhile, Nelson Oliveira teammates and Helder Postiga, who missed the game due to injury, believes the Selecção can get away with his "head up" after an impressive campaign.

My feeling is sadness. It is clear that to lose a semifinal on penalties is always painful, but the penalties are a lottery and that most of fortune is the winner. I think it was a European Championship success [of Portugal]. We did well, we were one of the top four teams in the tournament and did not win because they had the same fate, but the penalties are. We must be proud, but the truth is we're a little frustrated because we knew we could reach the final.

I did my best as I always do, so I'm satisfied with what I have done for the team. We must be proud because we did what we had to do. We played well and we deserved to be in the final.

Nélson Oliveira, Portuguese striker
Obviously, I feel a great sadness. We wanted to go to the final and failed. We are sad, but at the same time we can hold our heads high because it is worthy of our defeat. We did everything we could to win and unfortunately we could not do it, but we are proud away. We played well and we were equal to Spain. Unfortunately, we got the win we wanted.

Helder Postiga, Portuguese striker
Portugal showed a great desire to win, but unfortunately the match was decided on penalties. We had the luck of the previous competitions, but we have to hold your head high because the players gave their all in the field and brought honor to Portugal. This result and the campaign should make Portuguese proud. Now is the time to continue working, it's time to recover and start thinking about the next challenge.
